Day 1: Eat more, tracking, snatches

Day 1 went, I think, quite well, in spite of my last minute organization and goal setting. I decided to track my macros, so I went to 1percentedge.com to figure out my macros in the first place. Then I upgraded my My Fitness Pal account so that I could put in different macros for different days (I really do need all the help I can get), and started tracking. And uh oh. I evidently need to eat more? What the hell is that about? So, now I’m in the process of planning out more snacks (of the healthy, non-cheesecake variety) into my day.

My job is excruciatingly sedentary. So one of my big goals is to incorporate more movement, more exercise, throughout the course of my day. Luckily, I work in downtown Atlanta, so I walked around Centennial Park (not through it, because it’s closed off in preparation for the Shaky Beats music fest. Argh. I want my park walk back!). Despite the increasing heat (85 in May, what?), it was a delightful jaunt through downtown at a brisk pace. (Aside: And once I get through this crazy pre-wedding period, I can increase the amount of this extra movement even more).

And at CrossFit the WOD back squats then Isabel. Y’all. I have only done snatches twice before. Snatches are hard. It’s like a vertical burpee with weight. So I snatched as best I could, with quite a few fantastic tips from Coach Emily, and I feel like I have slightly improved. Plus, I did them the heaviest yet for me: 45 lbs! So I’m very excited about Isabel.

You may have noticed that today is actually Day 2, but I’m writing about yesterday, Day 1, and my image is yesterday’s newspaper that I used for my “before” pictures (and oh wow. Was that humbling. My fiancé took my photos and he said, “You’re going to hate all of these.” My response? “That’s okay. I’ll like the ones at the end of the challenge better.” After all, that’s why we’re here, right?). Initially, I thought I would blog at the end of each day, but that’s probably not going to happen, because busy. Also sleep. Something I generally always need more of, so for this challenge, I’m going to shoot for 8 hours a night. But I’m giving myself some extra leeway there until after my wedding.
